Woman Charged In Police Baton Assault

DONA ANA COUNTY, N.M. -- Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Deputy Adrian Sanchez responded to a 911 call Monday around 3 a.m. after a woman said she and her two sisters were assaulted by another woman wielding a police baton.According to investigators, an altercation in the 6500 block of Fox Road between three sisters and 32-year-old Viola Anne Nunez resulted in one of the sisters suffering a broken nose and bruises after being hit repeatedly with a police baton on her head, torso and legs.The victim, age 22, was transported to Mountain View Hospital by ambulance with non-life hyphen threatening injuries.Nunez, according to the victim, had been consuming alcohol from early in the evening to the early-morning hours when an argument ensued between the victim, her sisters and Nunez, about how Nunez was allegedly treating her daughter.Nunez was charged with one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, a third-degree felony, and two counts of battery, petty misdemeanors, for allegedly biting the victim in the leg during the confrontation and for allegedly punching one of the sisters the nose, said police.
