Dads Beat Heat On Father's Day

Sunday marked the first day of summer and while temperatures warmed up, it didn’t ruin any Father’s Day plans in the park.

"The kids were asking us to come to the park and have a good time," said Enrique Verales, from East El Paso.

Temperatures soared the mid 90s as dads and their families played volley ball and held cookouts at Ascarate Park. This week, temperatures are expected to climb to the upper 90s with slight rain chances forecasted.

But the dad’s KFOX-14 talked to, know just how to handle the heat.

“Later, we're going to go home and splash, you know with some games, with water in the yard," said Verales.

Other dads said they had everything they needed to beat the heat at the park.

"We've got the ice chest, we got a nice shaded tree and ... we got the family," said Raphael Duarte of East El Paso.

Heat or no heat, dad’s said Sunday was all about one thing.

"Mainly be with the kids. The kids are the main things. They're the ones that make us fathers," said Verales.
