EL PASO, Texas -- For the last several months, the History Channel has been shooting a documentary here in the Sun City. It is all a part of the Gangland series that tells the inside stories of some of America’s most notorious street gangs. This particular series that will air this week is called “Blood River”. It will take a look an in-depth look at the Barrio Azteca Prison Gang.“This is a group that is not a nice group they don't work and play well with others,” said Detective Jeff Gibson of the El Paso Sheriff 's Office.Gibson said the benefit of shooting the documentary is because it is like a validation of all the hard work and hours that he and his peers have put in. The only problem he found with the documentary is that it glorifies this gang to a certain extent. For those who watch the series and may become frightened or fearful of the gang, Gibson said there is nothing to worry about.“They shouldn't be as frightened as it makes it out to be, most of the violence carries out on the other side of the border,” said Gibson. The documentary will air this Thursday, June 18th at 7 p.m. mountain standard time on the History Channel. If you happen to miss the initial airing, there will be re-runs several times this week.
