EL PASO, Texas -- A woman claims a local towing company didn't exercise caution or responsibility when someone hired them to tow her semitrailer.

Teresa Ruiz said she found her truck dismantled in a lot near Horizon City three days after she discovered it was missing. At first she and her husband thought it was stolen from a storage area on Lee Boulevard where they've kept it for the last two years.

"Immediately we made a theft report to El Paso Police Department," said Ruiz.

But then two witnesses told her they saw an A D Towing truck pulling her vehicle. When she went to A D Towing she said she didn't get answers right away. She had to return to the company several times until she said they admitted to her they towed her truck. They told her Arturo Hernandez, a mechanic, hired them.

"They gave us a map to where the truck was," said Ruiz.

She found it in far East El Paso county, more than four miles into an isolated area near Horizon. Ruiz said Hernandez dismantled the truck. KFOX tried calling Hernandez but he could not be found for comment.

"Sure, we were angry, we knew that A D Towing had something to do with this," said Ruiz.

KFOX called A D Towing for an on-camera interview on Tuesday but no one returned the calls. But last week, reporter Monica Balderrama spoke to one of the owners Monica Dominguez over the phone. Dominguez said her company was hired to conduct a private tow and that they don't ask for ownership of the vehicle when towing.

"If that's how they work, then I can have any car pulled, any car that I like and say pull that car it's mine and bring it to my home," said Ruiz.

Dominguez also said it's a civil matter with the Ruiz's and the mechanic. She said she found out later that the Ruiz's hadn't paid the mechanic for his services.

KFOX also called several other towing companies and found out not all of them ask for proof of ownership.
