El Paso County Sheriff's deputies said a drunken driving suspect went for a joy ride in one of their patrol units.

It happened Tuesday night in San Elizario, Texas.

Deputies said 36-year-old Daniel Solis was handcuffed and placed in back of a deputy's unit, after he was arrested on charges of DWI.

While in the back seat, deputies said Solis managed to get his arms from behind his back and open a barrier window to the front seat.

He then climbed into the driver's seat and took off until deputies found him hiding in a nearby field.

Solis now faces additional charges of auto theft and escape.
