EL PASO, Texas -- Police said what started as a possible domestic dispute ended with a crash into a westside home."It sounded like a sonic boom. I thought it was lightning," said Beth Kurland, a neighbor."There was smoke everywhere,” said a witness, Juan De Leon. “I actually thought something was on fire."Dolores Ponce and her husband were inside their home on the 600 block of Thunderbird Drive when a woman plowed her truck into their bedroom, feet away from the bed where her husband was sleeping, police said. "It knocked the door down and I couldn't get in,” said Ponce. "I thought something had happened to my husband. I was just asking him if he was OK and he told me his whole body ached. I was really scared."The crash happened shortly after midnight. Officers said a woman sped through a stop sign and went through another yard before losing control and going airborne into Ponce's bedroom."I approached the vehicle to see if the person was OK, to see if she needed any medical attention," De Leon said. “She started yelling that her husband had left her and she wanted to do that to his car."Neighbors said a serious crash like this one, whether sparked by a domestic dispute or not, was something waiting to happen. "You could hear the cars flying down this street,” added Kurland. The crash knocked down a closet and a brick wall, but paramedics were able to get Ponce's husband out safely through the bedrooms' window.Neighbors told KFOX they've already tried to get speed bumps on Thunder Drive but have had no luck. They said the accident is a wake-up call and they have this message for drivers: "I'd like speeders to know that they need to stop and they need to be aware that this is a neighborhood with families and a school and they need to be a little more conscientious,” said Kurland.Police said the woman fled the scene soon after the crash but they were able to find; she was taken into custody. Officers believe alcohol may have played a role in the accident. Charges against her are pending.Ponce’s husband was taken to Thomason Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
