Rain Causes Travel Delays In Las Cruces

Dona Ana County is dried up and got wet several times Friday with scattered rains.

Residents said the biggest impact the rain had was on the roads.

One woman planned on getting a head start on the long weekend, but the weather had her looking at other options.

“I changed my mind because I heard there is going to be a lot of weather, very bad weather up there, so I decided not to go,” said Valerie Flores of Dona Ana.

Others just getting through Las Cruces Friday afternoon were reminded to slow down when conditions get slick. A crash on Telshor caused traffic to slow for at least a half hour.

Some areas did experience flooding. Dripping Springs Road near A Mountain was covered with water. Several cars lined up to cross it.

“We had to stop work because of this,” said Francisco Parga of Anthony, N.M.

Johnny Lopez had fun with the mud. His Jeep was covered with it after he spent the day all over the county. He finally found what he was looking for near A Mountain.

“We just went out there for a while, and I had a little bit of fun. It was dirtier, but I went through some puddles so it washed it off a little,” he said.

Las Cruces didn't record much more than 2 tenths of an inch, but Anthony, N.M., did get a half inch of rain.
