Rain Returns To Dona Ana County

Posted: 5:25 pm MDT May 22, 2009Updated: 6:31 pm MDT May 22, 2009

Rain soaked Dona Ana County after months of dry weather, and more rain is in the forecast for the weekend.

The rain only measured .02 inches at the Las Cruces Airport, but in some areas rain pooled and made it difficult to drive in some spots.

In Southeast Las Cruces rain collected at the bottom of A-mountain, and poured across a road traveler’s debated whether to cross.

“It's awesome but it's kind of scary too,” said Francisco Parga of Anthony, N.M.

Parga may have gotten an early release from working on framing outside this holiday weekend because of the rainfall.

“We had to stop work because of this,” Parga said.

In Mesilla, one resident said he waited several hours for the rain to dry so he could take his dog Guilly outside.

“She doesn't like it. She heads for the hills when it rains,” said Bill Towers

Parts of southern Dona Ana County could still see water flowing through arroyos as the county remained under an arroyo flood advisory until 6:45 p.m.
