A mother of seven was taken into custody Monday for allegedly beating her 11-year-old son with a hammer and previously threatening him with a gun, El Paso County Sheriff’s said in a statement.

Angelica Barron, 34, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and is currently out on bond. Child Protective Services has launched an investigation and has removed the children from the home.

"I hear them yelling, it’s mostly the mom," said neighbor Israel Juregui.

Neighbors in the area told KFOX they constantly hear screaming and children’s cries coming from the residence, located in the 100 block of Kila in Horizon City.

"Child Protective Services came and they were taking pictures like of the little kid and the girl," said neighbor Javier Barrientos.

With gates locked at the home, KFOX decided to call Barron on the phone, but there was no answer. A KFOX crew witnessed two sheriff's deputies pull up to the home on Tuesday. They were let in quickly by an unidentified man that emerged from the home.

"[The home is] kind of messy," Juregui said.

Sheriff’s deputies described the home not as messy, but rather deplorable. They claim when they arrived, feces were found littered on the floor.

“It scares me a lot because there a lot of little kids around here," Barrientos said.

Sheriff's officials said that more charges may be pending for Barron as their investigation continues.
