EL PASO, Texas -- A glowing object seen in the northern sky Sunday night was a balloon, according to officials at White Sands Missile Range.

Officials confirm to KFOX that the balloon was carrying a gamma ray telescope from the Columbia Scientific Balloon Center in Palestine, Tex. and was on a proper course.

The object sparked dozens of phone calls to the KFOX breaking news line. The object could be seen for over an hour as the sun began to set and lingered in the same position during that time.
