Castro, Robinson Continue Campaigns For Runoff Election

Though Carl Robinson took the lead Saturday in the race for city representative district four, he failed to capture a majority of the vote. So voters in northeast El Paso must head back to the polls on June 6 for a runoff election between Robinson and incumbent Melina Castro.

"I was hoping that we'd be able to win without a runoff," said Robinson. "But I'm glad to be in the runoff."

Robinson received nearly 35 percent of the votes while Castro received nearly 27 percent.

"But you gotta look at it from this stand point," said Robinson. "Seventy-three percent of the people that voted in northeast El Paso said that they did not want Miss Castro as their representative. I think that's a very clear message from the citizens of northeast El Paso that they want a change, and they want better representation."

In response, Castro said that's only Robinson's opinion, and that "we'll find out the truth in a month." Castro said, she "has a good record of supporting her constituency,” and that Robinson "has yet to prove himself."

Both Castro and Robinson encourage voters to turn out for the runoff election.
