LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- A gas tanker hit a fuel pump in Central Las Cruces Tuesday afternoon. The Flying-J tanker just finished unloading fuel at a gas station on the corner of Spruce and Solano. As it was leaving the station it hit one of the gas tanks.Firefighters placed a foam solution on the small amount of fuel that did spill to prevent it from igniting.“Any time that a fuel line is broken the valve automatically shuts the flow of gas to the pump to keep it underground,” said Mike Martinez with the Las Cruces Fire Department. Firefighters waited for a fuel pump service person to disconnect the pump so the tanker could leave.Little damage was done to the vehicle.
