EL PASO, Texas -- A El Paso man said that while he worked out at an East El Paso gym, someone stole his car keys and wallet."It was time to leave and I noticed the lock was gone on the locker and my bag was not in the same locker that I put it in," said Wes Rintelen.Rintelen said he went to the Planet Fitness on Zaragoza and Pellicano on Tuesday night when his locker at the gym was broken into. He said he noticed the keys to his vehicle were gone when he ran outside to check on his car he realized that his wallet which he left inside his car was gone. He said he was surprised to hear it happened to other people."As we were inside with police officers, three more people walked up and said they had just had stuff stolen from their locker as well," said Rintelen.KFOX went to Planet Fitness to find out what is being done to prevent a crime of this nature. In a written response they said:"To help ensure our members' security as much as possible, Planet Fitness utilizes the ongoing services of off-duty El Paso Police Officers at our Rojas location for at least eight years now, a private security service at our Zaragoza location since it opened and most recently, a digital video recording system at all locations. In addition, all Planet fitness managers recently attended a crime prevention meeting given by the El Paso Police Department specifically for local fitness centers. We were the only fitness center in attendance. Because we cannot utilize the digital recording system in our locker rooms, we have signs posted discouraging members from leaving valuables in the lockers. When it comes to our members’ security, we do not take it lightly. Unfortunately, like any other small business, we cannot control the actions of an opportunistic criminal.""Needless to say they took cash which was in the vehicle, my driver's license and all my credit cards," said Rintelen. As KFOX reported a few weeks ago, El Paso police officials said they're seeing an increase in thefts at gym parking lots. There were eight thefts in January all of them took place at eastside locations. There were six in February and five were reported in March.
