VADO, N.M. -- The Dona Ana County Sheriff's Department is investigating the alleged sexual assaults of two teenage girls, and is looking for two men who may have been involved.

Investigators spent the day at a home in Vado where the girls claimed to be.

“My cousin was raped. We are all taking it real hard. They are examining her,” said a relative to one of the victims.

A relative of one of the girls said both teens spent the day at a Las Cruces hospital being interviewed while investigators spent the day in Vado.

“We did locate one female here underage,” said Sgt. Joe Reynaud of the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Department.

The Dona Ana County sheriff's department said one of the girl led deputies to a home, where according to the county's offender Web site, a registered sex offender lives.

“At this time, the registered sex offender has been interviewed. We don't believe that he was doing anything to violate the terms of his status,” said Reynaud.

Investigators learned two of the offender's friends, one in his late teens, the other early twenties, were at the house this weekend. They are being sought for questioning in connection to the alleged rape.

Sheriff's investigators said the alleged assault may or may not have happened at the Vado home. “We haven't ruled that out at this point. As in all crimes, we are going for the worst case scenario so that we don't miss any evidence,” Reynaud said.

The relatives said they are happy the girls have returned.

“We are just glad that she is here,” said one relative to the girls.

The sheriff's department has been searching for the two men, but had been unable to locate them. Their names have not been released yet.
