Waste Water Problems In Vinton

On Monday, the village of Vinton got the backing of El Paso County when it comes to getting desperately needed sewage systems from the state and federal government.

Daniel Flores bought a piece of land in the village of Vinton 10 years ago. The setup he had was fine, until inspectors came by.

"I had two trailers in the residence when I bought it, and you're not allowed to have two dwellings tied into one septic, so that was what I was fined for," said Flores.

That is just one of the many sewage violations residents of his neighborhood have had to deal with. Many didn't even know they were breaking any rules until recently.

"There's been a lot of issues out there with wastewater," said County Commissioner Dan Haggerty.

Haggerty wants to help his constituents like Flores, by installing a waste water system.

"All we're doing is supporting their efforts in getting water and sewage and all the infrastructure they need from the state and feds," he said.

And that's the key, getting state and federal funding. The project could cost upwards of $22 million.

Flores believes the project would be a good investment for the village of Vinton.

"I think that's great. I think that's great. The sooner we can get a good sewage system in the area, it will help the residents, and help out the town for that matter," Flores told KFOX.

County commissioners approved a resolution on Monday asking the Texas Water Development Board for funding of the waste water system in Vinton.
