ONLY ON KFOX: SISD Investigates Allegations Of Possible In-School Child Abuse

Parents at Sierra Vista Elementary School were surprised and upset on Wednesday, when KFOX told them that one of the teachers is being investigated for possibly physically abusing children at school.

"It's unsettling," said Jason Bray.

"My son, they're here. And I don't want nothing to happen to anybody," said Maria Baker.

"Worried. I mean, my son goes to this school. I would hate to know that there is a teacher like that here. That's shocking," said Erika Martinez.

Vicki Icard with the Socorro Independent School District confirmed that one teacher at Sierra Vista is being investigated, and was put on administrative leave last week.

"I know that if a teacher is put on administrative leave, it usually does involve a serious incident," Icard told KFOX.

But Icard stopped just short of saying it is because of child abuse at school.

"The individual involved in the allegation has been put on administrative leave and Child Protective Services have been notified, we always do that if there's any allegation involving misconduct with a student," said said.

Child Protective Services would not comment on if they are also investigating, but did confirm that they investigate any and all child abuse cases at any school.

"I know that investigations of this type are a high priority with our district, with our department of Human Resources, so I'm sure they'll take care of it just as quickly as they can," said Icard.

Some parents said that is not enough, and want to see the teacher taken into custody.

"In all honesty, if I don't know he is locked down, then I don't feel comfortable at all," said Bray.
