Vandals, Burglars Target Socorro Business

Posted: 6:14 pm MST March 3, 2009Updated: 8:54 pm MST March 3, 2009

Seven months ago SunTech Company in Socorro was booming, but a string of crime has the owner unsure of his future.

Three weeks ago, Juan Heredia, the owner of SunTech Company arrived at his shop in Socorro to find the inside a mess.

"The first time it was about $15,000 worth of tools and damage that was incurred," said Heredia.

Heredia now keeps his power tools inside the shop chained up. In a three-week time span, his shop has been broken into twice.

During the second incident, Heredia said, someone broke into the yard. The person wasn't able to break the lock but used a vehicle and rammed the gate down.

"More than anything, they vandalized our vehicles in the back. It was four vehicles that were vandalized," said Heredia.

That time, nothing was taken but the business lost money again when Heredia had to replace vehicle windshields and doors. Now, the business is hurting.

"It's pretty devastating. We're a small company trying to get some work and help the community by providing a service and it's devastating," said Heredia.

Heredia said the company is operating but it's hard to do the work with fewer resources.

"It's going to be very hard. It was already six to seven months that we progressed that's like another seven-or-eight month set back," said Heredia.

The El Paso Sheriff's Office is looking into the incidents. Heredia said he will press charges.
