DONA ANA COUNTY, N.M. -- The winter weather also struck southern New Mexico.Flurries seen Tuesday morning were long gone by noon, but the winds had created quite a challenge for those working outside.Up in the Organ Mountains the cold weather seemed to get even colder, but the Aguirre springs campground host said it was just another day on the job.“I think I’d rather be inside,” said host Richard Anderson.Flurries and snow didn't keep Anderson from getting out of his truck and checking the campground.“We had a lot of hikers but the weather it hit right after the weekend so it did bother them too much. Right now there's nobody here. It's just cold up here and windy,” Anderson said.Whether it is a trash can that needed to be emptied, or a bathroom that needed a roll of toilet paper, Anderson made sure everything was ready for the next visitor.“We had one camper that stayed overnight but he's gone,” Anderson said. That camper apparently saw what was falling from the clouds and headed for warmth.“Yeah, I'm sure it's because of the cold and the wind. It's just kind of miserable if you want to hike the trails,” Anderson said.Anderson did not expect campers Tuesday night, but said he would be back out to check on everything once again.
