After two pit bulls attack two women in Fabens last week, the newly elected El Paso sheriff's sets up a meeting with Animal Control to talk about those issues."They kept tearing up the fence. They're always around here," said Fernando from Sparks.Fernando said he finds stray dogs inside his yard almost every day and fears for his nephews.Minutes later, he spots one of the stray dogs in the desert. Pet overpopulation and stray animals is a prominent problem in El Paso."It increases the likelihood that people will be attacked by dogs in our city," said Jane Poss.Poss contributed to a study conducted in Sparks where it was found that in one occasion as many as 40 dogs were roaming the streets in an hour period. Poss says the solution is to spay and neuter."I believe we need to make spay/neuter services more available to the citizens of El Paso so they can sterilized their animals and reduce this problem of pet overpopulation," said Poss.KFOX took the concerns to newly elected El Paso Sheriffs Richard Wiles. He said he's seen the number of stray dogs first hand."This is a public safety issue and I think its important for the sheriff's office to work with animal control to address those issues," said Wiles."I've called Animal Control about four to five times and they say they can't do nothing about it," said Fernando. That's what most people in Sparks say about Animal Control. Poss said the city need to take more responsibility."As long as the city doesn't do anything, doesn't take any action., there will continue to be dog attacks on people, children," said Poss.Wiles is scheduled to have a meeting with Animal Control officials next week.
