East El Paso Furniture Store Bankrupt; Customers' Issues Not Resolved

Posted: 7:21 pm MST January 7, 2009Updated: 9:20 pm MST January 7, 2009

An East El Paso furniture store falls victim to a bad economy and leaves some angry customers behind.

Luis Payan and his wife bought thousands of dollars worth of furniture at Metro Contemporary Furniture in East El Paso and they weren't happy with the service.

"We bought some furniture and they charged us 20 percent for a restocking fee," Payan said.

But now, it turns out the store is closed and it has been closed since before the holidays.

Sammy Carrejo, the marketing director at Direkt Connect, said he sees furniture customers going to his store wondering what happened.

"We see anywhere from 10 to 25 questions a day from customers coming in here trying to get their furniture back and inquiring about what happened to them," said Carrejo.

The Better Business Bureau listed two locations for the store and 15 employees. The owner of the store is listed as Arturo Yanan. But when KFOX gave him a call, he said he wasn't the owner any more and said a lawyer would be contacting all customers.

But Payan said he hasn't been contacted and worries his issue won't be resolved. Carrejo says the way the economy is he hopes other businesses stay afloat.

"This is the second business within the last four months that has closed. The economy has taken a toll on a lot of different people. Unfortunately they're one of the last victims of it, the recent victims," Carrejo.
