Borderland Residents Pack Malls For Black Friday 2

Just when you thought you had survived Black Friday this year it has struck again.

Now being called Black Friday 2, the day after Christmas offered amazingly deep discounts, and shoppers noticed.

“A big difference: Then it was like 33 percent off; now it's like 66 and 75,” shopper Tim Jones said.

"Went to a lot of clothes stores and most of them were 50 to 75 percent off. It’s a really good deal," shopper Jaclyn Smith said.

With the economic recession, there is a reason retailers are dropping prices lower than we've ever seen.

Experts predict that before Friday, holiday sales were down 8 percent, the worst drop in decades. Certain items have seen even lower sales. Shoe sales have dropped 13.5 percent; men's clothing dropped 14 percent; women’s clothing fell 23 percent; and electronics took the biggest hit, as sales dropped more than 24 percent.

Those drops mean great deals for the hundreds of shoppers who turned out Friday.

Many of those shoppers were using gift cards to make their purchases.

"I had a lot of gift cards for Christmas, and got in a hurry to get rid of them fast," Smith said.

Smith may have the right idea. Experts predict even more businesses may close in 2009, which would make those gift cards useless. However, based on the numbers Friday, shoppers were ready to spend in order to save.

"Huge. Huge. The mall is packed. No room to do anything," Jones said.
