EL PASO, Texas -- El Paso Independent School District official haven’t finalized attendance zones for two new elementary schools currently under construction.Parents were invited to Logan Elementary Monday evening to give input on proposed boundaries. The neighborhood rezoning could affect students in 11 northeast El Paso schools.“I don't know exactly where they're going to separate the streets … if it's this street that's going to separate to the left, or on the right side houses,” said Veronica Garcia, who’s two children attend Nixon Elementary school.Just up the road on Marcus Uribe Drive, construction has started on a new elementary school. EPISD has temporarily named it E-16. Depending on the boundaries EPISD lays out, Garcia’s children could be changing schools next fall.“We'll be disappointed because we've gotten to know the staff really well. My son's in kindergarten, and we already know who his first grade teacher is going to be,” said Garcia.“We're trying to look at natural waterways, major roads (to set the boundaries) and we're also getting parent input so that we can do what's right for the community,” said Renee de Santos, spokeswoman for the district.EPISD officials said they're working to keep students together through elementary, middle and high school. The other elementary school to open next fall is on Ellerthorpe Avenue on Fort Bliss. Officials have temporarily named it E-13.Garcia said she isn’t against the new schools going up, but feels these changes will stress out students.“A lot of them are military parents, so their kids just got used to having another little friend for that year, and there they going to have to move to another school again while they're still stationed in El Paso,” said Garcia.“We're talking to our kids about, trying to get them ready for it, but yeah, it's hard for the kids and the parents,” she said.EPISD said the proposed boundaries for E-13 could affect students in the Irvin and Chapin feeder pattern. Those are students attending Milam, Park, Moye and Logan Elementary Schools. The third and final meeting for parents who might be affected by E-13 will take place Dec. 15 at 6 p.m. at the Logan Elementary cafeteria. EPISD officials will present the finalized boundaries for the schools and present them to the Board of Trustees in January. The proposed boundaries for E-16 could affect students in the Andress feeder pattern, those are students currently attending Nixon, Bradley, Barron, Fannin, Newman, Collins and Dowell Elementary Schools.Parents who might be affected by E-16 are invited to attend a meeting Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Nixon Elementary multipurpose room. Another meeting is scheduled for Dec. 11 at 6 p.m. at the Fannin Elementary cafeteria; a final meeting will take place Dec. 18 at 6 p.m. at the Nixon Elementary multipurpose room.
