Las Cruces, N.M. -- Andy Silguero lives right next to what is now a crime scene. He was woken up early this morning by a loud crash."Right as we were coming out we heard gunshots, and we hit the ground and ran back in," Silguero said.It all started at about 2 a.m. Saturday, when a police officer attempted to pull over a Dodge truck.Instead of stopping the truck took off into a neighborhood.Witnesses tell KFOX the suspect was traveling at a high rate of speed down Arizona Ave., when he tried to turn onto the 800 block of Luna Street. He was going too fast, however, and ended up hitting a home’s front yard fence.Police are releasing little information about what happened next.Police only tell KFOX that the suspect then ran over a police officer, and that officer then shot the suspect."I heard the pickup trying to back up, you know, tires screeching, and that’s when I heard gunshots,” Silguero said. The suspect was hit at least two times and was airlifted to Thomason Hospital in El Paso. The officer was taken to a Las Cruces hospital. For neighbors, something like this is not common in this neighborhood."It's a quiet neighborhood, nothing happens, kids come outside and play," neighbor Tara Garner said."It's the first time I've seen something like that," Benny Portillo said. While crime scene investigators comb through his neighbor's front yard, it leaves Silguero, a father of three, on edge."It makes me feel uneasy because its too close to -- too close for comfort really," Silguero said. The identities and conditions of both the officer and suspect have not been released.
