Despite the low pricesat the pump, El Pasoans are staying close to home this holiday, according to AAA.

The agency reports this summers $4 a gallon gas combined with economic uncertainty may have put a permanent dent in holiday budgets and in turn may be keeping more people closer to home.

AAA predicts a 1.6 percent decrease in the number of holiday travelers on the road nationwide, a 6-year low.

In the meantime, El Pasoans said while they are not going far this Thanksgiving, they are still thankful for the relief at the pump.

"Right now I put some gas it is $1.98, it use to be like $4 a month ago," said Alonso Hernandez.

"I'm really thankful they are down. Supreme is $2.06 at the local Chevron," said Kristi Holguin.

AAA reports since there will be less people on the road this holiday, there will likely be fewer traffic deaths. They report Thanksgiving is traditionally one of the deadliest holiday travel periods.
