YISD Board To Begin Interviewing Candidates For Superintendent

On Friday, the search firm hired to help find a superintendent will share its findings with the Ysleta Independent School District board. The board will review and assess candidate resumes.

YISD has been without an official superintendent for almost a year now, but the search is on.

"I think it's a good thing that they're taking their time," said Lynn Reese from East El Paso.

The YISD board president, Carmen G. Munoz, announced Friday the search process is on schedule. The search firm recruited more than 30 candidates interested in the job. Now, it's time for the board to narrow it down to the top five people.

"We want to make sure it's someone that will be able to work with the board and meet our goals we have set for the children. We want someone who is willing to come in and work very hard with us," Munoz said.

Munoz said finding the right person can be difficult.

"That's the reason why we have taken our time. That's why we hired the firm BWP and Associates, because there is a process. We understand the process has been long," said Munoz.

KFOX talked to YISD taxpayers who say they want someone who's going to stick around for a while.

"Consistency is important to me because my kids will be in school for a while here in the district," said Reese.

Meanwhile, district administrators said an investigation into the spending of former Ysleta Superintendent Hector Montenegro is still ongoing. As KFOX reported, Montenegro resigned as superintendent in Arlington, Texas, earlier this year because of questions about his spending there.
