Jackie York has been in the real estate business for the last 10 years.

"The last three years, you pretty much put a house on the market and it was sold. It was selling itself," said York.

She said during that time, she quickly saw hundreds of people signing up to sell homes.

"They saw the market was good, everyone wanted to get into the real estate, they wanted a piece of the market, so we did see a lot more agents come in," York told KFOX.

Now the market has cooled off, and many homes are taking months to sell. York now sees her colleagues struggling.

"There are some that I've heard of that are taking second jobs or going back to the previous jobs and just holding there license as a second job," she said.

York added that one in 10 realtors in El Paso got out of the business in just the last year, but she has advice for those who stick it out.

"Basically it's just tougher. You have to work hard if you want to get the home sold right now," said York. "It's a good job, it's a good career, you just gotta hang in there, you gotta work hard."

York added that foreclosures in El Paso seem to be on the rise. From mid August through mid September, she saw over 400 homes foreclose in the El Paso area, up from the typical 250 per month.
