Man Sentenced To 28 Years For 2004 Murder

Abraham Cavasos was sentenced to serve 28 years in prison.

In December 2004 Cavasos and another man were in a fight when Cavasos shot and killed the man, said deputies.

For nearly three years Cavasos was on the run before being caught by Mexican authorities and brought back to the U.S.

Having already been sentenced 10 years for prior convictions, Cavasos sat in a court room Friday listening to the sentence of 28 more years. Both sentences will be served concurrently.

"He will have to finish that sentence of 10 years before he can begin his sentence of 28 years," said Leonard Morales defense attorney.

Morales said there are no definite plans to appeal the sentence.
