Civil Lawsuit, Suicide Pact Surrounding Elderly Woman's Death

EL PASO, Texas -- The Poki Roni Ranch owner is believed to have killed his own mother and made it look like a suicide. He is in jail on murder charges. Court records indicate a possible suicide pact and a family feud.El Paso police units block the road that once led to the Poki Roni Ranch, a family attraction that offered pony rides, lessons and birthday parties.Travis Bob Kirchner, 55, was arrested and charged with murder on Friday morning. His mother, 81-year-old Patricia Janice Kirchner, was found dead in their home also at the Poki Roni property, on Thursday morning. At first, the report came in as a suicide. But the complaint affidavit indicates Kirchner and his mother agreed to commit suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning.It was agreed that they would remain in a vehicle, a 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser, inside a sealed garage with the car running, according to the document. According to the affidavit, Kirchner gave his mother sleeping pills to relax her, then dragged her into the garage.Court records list a numerous lawsuits involving their neighbors, the Gingerys. A KFOX reporter spoke to June Gingery, Pat Kirchner's sister. She said she hadn't spoken to her sister in years. The Gingerys won a civil lawsuit last week. She said she feels her sister didn't take it so well.Judge Guadalupe Rivera's office confirmed that Kirshner was ordered to close the Poki Roni. The road that leads to the ranch, Browers Avenue, is a private road but has been used by the public for years. Kirchner was ordered to find another entrance before having anymore functions at the ranch.
