John Charles Fox, 52, from El Paso, Texas, an aircraft repairman, was sentenced Thursday to 10 years in federal prison for not registering as a sex offender and possessing child pornography.

In February, KFOX uncovered that Fox was openly talking with underage boys on MySpace.com. During the investigation, federal agents arrested Fox while he was coming back into the country from Iraq.

Fox failed to register as a sex offender and possessed child pornography while he was employed by the armed forces outside the United States.

U.S. District Judge David Briones sentenced Fox to 120 months in federal prison. Briones also ordered that Fox be placed under supervised release for a period of 10 years after completing his prison term.

According to court documents, in March 2002, Fox was convicted in the Superior Court of Guam of committing a prohibited sexual act with a minor. Fox was required to register as a sex offender on a yearly basis with the local law enforcement wherever he lived for the rest of his life.

Fox did not update his registration with the El Paso Police Department in November 2007. Fox also failed to tell law enforcement of changes in his employement status as a military contractor as well as several trips he had taken to Iraq.

While at Balad Air Force Base in Iraq, authorities found that Fox was in possession of 22 videos and 14 photographs that depicted child pornography. The images were found on Fox's laptop computer, which was turned into lost-and-found authorities at Heathrow Airport in London on May 23, 2007.

Fox was arrested Jan. 22, 2008, in Detroit, during a return trip to El Paso from Balad.

Fox pleaded guilty to both charges on June 30, 2008.
