Health And Human Services Office In El Paso Will Close

The Office of the Inspector General in Washington confirmed that the Health and Human Services office in El Paso would close in a few months. The two special agents working in that office investigate health care fraud.

Don White, the spokesman for the OIG, said the agents would be relocated because of budget constraints.

A KFOX reporter contacted the office of state Rep. Chente Quintanilla and notified his office about the issue. Quintanilla sent a letter to senators, congressmen and the attorney general voicing his concern and opposing the relocation of the agents.

Quintanilla's office assisted many seniors who have been victims of improper treatment by Medicare Advantage plan agents and understands the importance of keeping the agents in El Paso.

"We feel like the border is in bigger need because there is more fraud going on and more people that are not able to defend themselves because of the language barrier and other issues," said Quintanilla.

A spokesman with the office of U.S Rep. Silvestre Reyes said Reyes and his staff had a conference with the department of Health and Human Services to let its officials know he is opposed to the relocation.
