Several undeclared avocados infested with larvae were found at the Ysleta port of entry.

The avocados were found on Aug. 9 when a passenger in a taxi coming from Mexico to the U.S. didn’t declare fruit, vegetables, and meat

When U.S. Custom Border Protection officers examined luggage inside the taxi they found 19 avocados infested with seed weevil larvae.

The passenger was fined $175.

U.S. officials want to let the public know that people they can bring in a personal amount of avocados if the seed has been removed. Passengers need to declare their items to a CBP officer working at the inspection booth. Failure to declare items from Mexico can result up to a $300 fine for a first offense.
