EL PASO, Texas -- After buying several uniforms for two of her children who go to Eastwood Middle, Elsa Colmenero discovered she bought the wrong kind of pants, according to administrators at the school. The pants required are docker-style. But KFOX found out people have different definitions for docker-style pants."I added up how much I spent on uniforms, and it came out to $250, just uniforms," said Colmenero.Colmenero spend that much money only to find out she got the wrong style of pants for her 12-year-old daughter who goes to Eastwood Middle School. Wednesday morning, she got a call from her daughter to bring her another pair of pants to school. She went to the school to ask the principal what the problem with the pants was."He said, 'Are they docker-style?' I said, 'Are they the ones with the creases?' Then they're not docker-style," said Colmenero.Colmenero showed KFOX a picture of her daughter on the first day of school. She feels the pants are appropriate. She said the style is similar to what she wore last year and the school didn't have a problem then. KFOX requested an interview with the Eastwood Middle principal, but he was unavailable. An Ysleta Independent School District spokeswoman described the correct style of pants required."That they should be docker-style, which means it's a casual pants with belt loops. They should not be overly baggy, saggy, oversized, overly excessively, or in any way suggestive," said Christy Flores-Jones, YISD spokeswoman.A KFOX reporter paid the school a visit to see if the dress code was being enforced and to see what other kids are wearing. She noticed a lot of the girls were wearing pants similar to Elsa's daughter's pants.Nina Brack, a seventh-grader, said she's wearing docker-style pants even though they don't have the creases. And Elia Gomez, another seventh-grader, admitted she's not wearing the right pants because they have a button on the pocket."Are you gonna wear those again?" the reporter asked."Yes," said Gomez."How come?""These are the only pants I have," said Gomez.Colmenero said she will eventually buy her daughter new pants, but she hopes administrators don't single her kids out.
