Gas Prices Drop, Still Too High For Some El Pasoans

The price at the pump is not as bad as it was one month ago, but remains up over 80 cents a gallon from one year ago.

"They have gone way too far up," said Tiffany Fox from the Lower Valley.

"They're horrible. They used to be worse, but they are still terribly awful," said Josephine Witkoff from East El Paso.

"Terrible. I used to love my truck," said Arnulfo Arias from West El Paso.

So many relationships end over money issues, and it is no different for Arias and his Honda Ridgeline.

"When I saw it, I got all excited and I bought it. But now I want to exchange it because of the prices," said Arias.

President Bush, in his weekly radio address Saturday, said he understands why Americans are upset about gas prices, and he blames Congress.

"So in June, I called on Congress to open up more of America's domestic oil resources for exploration, including offshore exploration of the Outer Continental Shelf. But throughout the summer, the leaders of the Democratic Congress have refused to allow it to come to a vote," said Bush.

El Pasoans were split as far as who to blame.

"Any benefits, slim as they may be, would not come into place for several years, and Bush knows that," said Witkoff.

"The Congress. Because I feel that they control everything," said Arias.

"It's hard to just say, 'Well, it's the president's fault, or it's Congress' fault.' The president and Congress are supposed to work together," said Fox.
