Residents Blame Sharp Curve In Road For Traffic Death

The Guerra family is morning the loss Rodolfo Guerra, 42, who died in Fabens and residents believe a dark road and sharp curve could be to blame for the tragic accident.

"I’ve witnessed three or four deaths here plus the ones that happen when we're not here," said El Paso County Sheriff 's Department spokesman Jesse Tovar.

Around 7 a.m. Friday, deputies were called out to the 600 block of Northwest Camp Street in Fabens, Texas.

"A passer-by had located a body on the side of the roadway next to a canal," said Tovar.

Investigators took pictures and measurements as they tried to piece together the tragedy.

"The individual was traveling westbound on Northwest Camp, for an unknown reason he veered off to the left and was driving on the shoulder," said Tovar.

"This street is very dangerous because of the dip and in front of it there's a sign that warns you to decrease your speed," said Fabens resident Rodolfo Silva.

When KFOX was at the scene, they noticed that there was only one light, which makes this road extremely dangerous at night.

"Over there where the dip is at, that's where we need a light," said Silva.

Silva who owns a car wash next to the crash site said there has been too many accidents.

“We've told the county several times to put a flashing light, but no, it's been like that for years and years. The people from this town do know it's dangerous, but the ones who aren't from here don't know and they go fast and there's the example of what happens. Hopefully they'll pay attention to us now," Silva said.

Guerra suffered a severe head injury in the fall. He was not wearing a helmet, said deputies.

Speed appears to have been a factor. It is still unknown if alcohol was a factor a toxicology report is pending.
