Tailgating Policies Announced For UTEP Football

It's part of the college football experience, tailgating. With one of the biggest games in UTEP history just a couple of weeks away against Texas, tailgating will be huge.

"I think that the tailgating policies as we worked with the fan base has worked out well last year, and we will continue with it this year," said UTEP Police Chief Cliff Walsh.

That means tailgating doesn't start until noon, you have to leave the parking lots by the end of the first quarter, and can only tailgate for one hour after the game. Yet with the Texas game expected to be a sellout, some may be left without a ticket, and without a place to go.

"I think yes, they absolutely need to change the policy for this game, it's going to be completely packed, there's going to be people from out of town coming and they are going to be tailgating somewhere, whether it's on campus or wherever, they're going to be tailgating somewhere," said one UTEP fan.

"No, absolutely not, I mean we're here to see the game, that's what it's all about," said Eva Castellano as she picked up her tickets for the Texas game.

But some said to tighten up when the Horns come to town.

"I think they should be tougher, honestly, one of the other biggest games, like when Texas Tech comes, it's even more packed than the other games, and the crowd is even worse," said Rachel Serrano from the Lower Valley.
