EL PASO, Texas -- As Mother Nature opened the skies over the borderland Monday morning, Luis Monterrosa couldn't help but look for leaks in the ceiling of his west El Paso home. The old home on Pyrite Street had been in need of a new roof for a while, and the heavy rain that Hurricane Dolly dumped over El Paso a few weeks ago created major problems for the Monterrosas. Leaks in the living room caused the ceiling to collapse.Shortly after 2 a.m. Monday, the problem had intensified. "I looked and started seeing everything fall apart. My roof started leaking first, then the living room, then the laundry room," said Monterrosa. The leaks caused to the ceiling in the living room and laundry room to collapse. In Monterrosa's bedroom the walls started soaking up water, and the roof started leaking."I'm probably not going to sleep tonight ... have to worry about the house. It's getting into the walls now so we're worried about the electrical," said Monterrosa. The Monterrosas received aid from the American Red Cross a few weeks ago. The family bought the material to make the repairs but was waiting for the weather to clear up to start working on the roof.
