Water Main Break Causes Property Damage

El Paso Water Utilities crews will be repairing a water main break in northeast El Paso for most of Monday morning.

The break in the 5100 block of Alps Drive produced a 50-foot geyser and shot rocks, pieces of asphalt and debris at a home. The geyser flooded the front yard and caused the rear window of the family's car to shatter.

Another car parked right next to the sinkhole that formed came a few inches from falling in.

The massive water main break was reported at 5 a.m. Water would be seen a block away shooting into the air.

At least 21 homes are without water service. The cause of the break isn't known. Crews said it could have to do with the age of the pipe or too much pressure.

More than four water main breaks have been reported in the northeast in the past month.
