Most People Comply With New Rules At Montana Vista

Sheriff's deputies were pulled from other departments and divisions in order to have the man power to block the road for the first time to everyone but the residents and their families.

El Paso Sheriff's deputies setup road blocks at 14 major streets that lead to homes in Montana Vista.

KFOX was first to report when Montana Vista residents petitioned to have their roads closed to prevent party-goers from leaving trash near their homes. County commissioners granted their request.

"I was really surprised that our neighborhood got organized like that. I'm very happy with it because I had noticed the increase in trash every year around my home," said Abby Sones a Montana Vista resident.

Sones said she's having people at her place but doesn't mind that it may take them a little longer to arrive.

While answering people's questions and asking for addresses or invitations, the lines behind the road blocks were bound to get long.

"I think it's worth it," said Sones.

Meanwhile along Montana Avenue people started to set up their parties early in order to get a spot. Since 14 streets and the shoulder on Montana is off limits things may get packed in the desert areas of Montana Vista.

"It happens every year, it gets packed," said Jaime Uranga, a Montana Vista resident.

Montana Vista residents said last year hundreds of people were set up all along the two-mile stretch of Flagger. This year there were a hand full of people near the firework stands.
