WOBURN, Mass. -- A British man convicted of shooting his wife and baby daughter to death as they snuggled in their beds two years ago was sentenced to two life terms in prison without the chance for parole.Neil Entwistle, 29, was convicted Wednesday of two counts of first-degree murder in the 2006 deaths of his wife, Rachel, and their 9-month-old baby, Lillian Rose.During the sentencing Thursday at a Middlesex County courtroom, the judge heard from Rachel's parents and brother, then called the slayings "incomprehensible" and imposed concurrent sentences. The family of his victims talked of how they would now have to live forever with shattered dreams, reported WCVB-TV in Boston."Our dreams as a parent and grandparent have been shattered by the shameless act of one person," Rachel Entwistle's mother, Patricia Matterazzo, said. She described Neil Entwistle as a "low and despicable" man who had the luxury of a jury trial while she and her family will have to suffer for a lifetime."I have lost two generations of my family," she said, asking that Entwistle be sentenced to two consecutive life terms.Entwistle had claimed his wife killed their daughter, then committed suicide. But a jury of six men and six women believed the state's contention that Entwistle, distraught over his failing financial situation and dissatisfied with his sex life, took his father-in-law's .22-caliber gun and shot his wife and daughter, then fled to England. In Massachusetts, the only punishment for a first-degree murder conviction is life in prison without parole.
