KFOX Update: SISD To Discuss Separation Agreement With Superintendent

A Special meeting of the Board of Trustees of Socorro ISD will be held June 10, 2008, beginning at 6:00 PM in the District Service Center Board Room to discuss a "separation agreement" with Superintendent Dr. Syvlia Atkinson, according to the district's website.

The meeting is expected to be held behind closed doors.

As KFOX has been following, two of Atkinson's biggest critics -- Tony Ayub and Joe Sarabia -- recently got elected to the Board. They join Karen Blaine and Craig Patton as boardmembers in opposition to the extension of Atkinson's contract; creating a four-person majority that could ultimately lead to her dismissal.

Atkinson's hiring practices were the focus of a recent award-winning KFOX investigation. Documents show she may have hired friends over more qualified applicants for key district positions.
