Deming Residents Ready For Indiana Jones Film

Several scenes from the new Indiana Jones movie were shot in New Mexico. Many were filmed in Deming.

Deming residents signed confidentiality documents saying they wouldn’t talk about the movie until after its release.

Those who caught glimpses a year ago though said this movie will be thrilling.

Those who met Harrison Ford and other set members said Deming was an exciting place to be.

One restaurant owner said the crew frequented his cafe, including the main actors.

“Harrison Ford, when I was cooking on a big cooker, came up to me while eating a hamburger. He said ‘You think this is a big enough cooker?’ And I looked at him and I said, ‘I have a bigger one at home.’ He just rolled his eyes back, shook his head and laughed and walked away,” said Van Jacobson, owner of Adobe Cafe.

The set crew and actors also lounged in Jacobson’s cigar room and drank plenty of wine.

Other cast and crew hot spots included downtown restaurants, where one server was excited to meet Ford's longtime girlfriend, Calista Flockhart.

“I just told her that it was an honor being around her,” said Deming resident Johnathan Richmond.

Deming’s airport hangars were redesigned for the movie as a U.S.Air Force base, perhaps shown in a scene from one of the trailers.

“How they had the set inside one of the hangars, I'm kind of anxious to see how that comes out in the movie, said Gene Paulk, Deming City community services manager.

Residents are waiting for the movie to show so they can finally talk about what they saw.

“It was of a tough mix because you wanted to respect what the movie was doing and let them get their job done and kind of put us on the map,” said Paulk who signed five different confidentiality statements about what he saw in May 2007.

Deming residents will have to travel to Las Cruces for the city’s nearest movie theatre to watch the movie.

Construction has just begun in Deming though for a new theatre that could be up and running by the end of the year.

The movie opens in theatres nationwide Thursday.
