Truck Cab Crushed In Crash

EL PASO, Texas -- El Paso police are still trying to determine why the driver of a truck rear-ended a parked 18-wheeler. The tractor-trailer was parked in a rest area near Interstate 10 east and Transmountain Road with its hazard lights on when the crash happened at 4 a.m. Police said the driver might have accidently exited the freeway at the rest area.The moving truck's entire cab was crushed in the accident. The driver was pinned between the dashboard and the seat when rescue crews arrived. El Paso firefighters used the Jaws of Life to pull him out. He was taken by helicopter to Thomason Hospital.Lt. Robert Diaz of the El Paso Fire Department said the man was complaining of pain in his legs when paramedics were treating him. He is said to be in stable condition.Police said the 40-year-old El Paso man was on his way back from Las Cruces. They believe he may be self-employed.
