EL PASO, Texas -- After his truck was hit by a fire truck six weeks ago, an El Paso man who doesn't want to reveal his identity tells KFOX he still hasn't gotten the money to fix it. "There was an accident across the street. They were taking care of the people across the street and he forgot to but the parking brake on and the truck took off and did the damage to the vehicle," said the victim. An El Paso Fire Department pumper from fire station 26 hit the man's truck in an eastside parking lot. The police filed a report at the scene but did not cite the driver, according to the victim. At the time, the victim said he didn't think much of it. "He says, 'Don't worry about it. It was an accident. It was our fault. We just have to take pictures and take a report and we will send it to the city and take care of it,'" the victim said. It has already been six weeks since then and, to make matters worse, the estimate to fix the truck is a little more than $5,000. The city was only willing to pay about $3,000. The fire department told KFOX all claims involving city vehicles go through the city attorney and accidents like this are not taken lightly. "Any fire department personnel that violates any policies the range of disciplinary action from a written reprimand up to termination," said John Concha, a spokesperson for the El Paso Fire Department. The person responsible for the accident got a two-day suspension, according to the victim. All he wants now is the city to be fair. "What happens if someone was walking by, a child, an adult, anybody. I mean are they going to try to make an offer on a life? That is how I feel they are treating it," he said. KFOX called the city attorneys office about the accident, they said they were going to look into the matter but never called us back.
