LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- Sales appear to be pretty good at United RV Sales in Las Cruces, but two different RV owners said they're having a difficult time putting theirs on the road.Margaret Murphy filled up her tank twice Monday, once before she went to Truth Or Consequences, and then again when she came back.Reading her receipts, Murphy said, “This morning it was $38.12 and I got 10.30 gallons. When I returned from T Or C to Dona Ana, I put in $54.13.”She moved to Las Cruces in January and was unable to tow her car, making her RV her primary vehicle, which she has driven quite a bit lately.“I have been until now. I'm going to get that car as soon as I can,” said Murphy. At United RV Sales, sales seem to be on track.“Our travel trailer and 5th-wheel sales are really good,” said general sales manager Jeremy Shores. He said a few people have expressed their gas price concerns.“They'll go and they'll get to their destination but they'll stay there a little longer or they'll take shorter trips,” said Shores.Meanwhile two of the nation’s largest recreation vehicle makers’ sales have declined about 40 percent in the past three years. One even borrowed against its employees' life-insurance policies. A few years ago one Las Cruces driver parked his RV for good.“It was two bucks at the truck stop and we gassed it up at like $160,” said Frog Theriault. He said he started driving a van, then, moved on to his newest vehicle, a former mustang that has the front end of a motorcycle. He said at least he has a full tank if he needs to move his RV.Many drivers whether filling up their RV or car said they do expect gas prices to get even higher. Many are hoping to avoid the $4 mark.
