ANTHONY, Texas -- Anthony police are looking for two passengers who were ejected from a vehicle after it was hit by a train at 10:50 p.m. Thursday. Witnesses told KFOX the black Dodge Avenger went around the crossing gates as the train was approaching Washington Street in Anthony, Texas. The vehicle rolled over several times and landed on its roof 100 feet away on the tracks."We heard the noise, and my cousin yelled, 'Look! Look at the car!' then I saw the car flipping and got scared," said Jorge Hidalgo, who was in a front yard a few feet from the railroad tracks when he witnessed the crash."I thought they died. The train hit the car, and the car came apart," said Martin Castillo, who called police. Castillo lives near the tracks and said this is not the first time he's seen someone go around the flashing crossing gates. "Sometimes the crossing guards go down and the train doesn't come, and when it does come, there are some who don't look both ways," he said.Investigators said the train struck the vehicle's front end and missed hitting the four men inside by a few inches. The train was able to stop a mile away from the crash scene. Pieces of the vehicle's windshield and a speaker were stuck on the locomotive.Hidalgo said he saw two men limping away from the accident scene. When Anthony police and the El Paso County sheriff's deputies showed up they found a trail of blood on the tracks leading into Anthony, New Mexico."There's a large amount of blood right there (on the tracks) which probably means there were serious injuries," said Officer Robert Araujo of the Anthony Police Department.Officers also found beer cans inside the vehicle and said alcohol played a role in the crash.Three hours after the crash police found the driver and front seat passenger at Las Palmas Medical Center. Araujo said the driver, who was among the three ejected, had a large laceration to the back of his head, broken bones and will likely be taken to Thomason Hospital for surgery. The passenger had cuts and bruises, and was the only who was not ejected from the vehicle because he had a seat belt on, said Araujo.Police said all men are in their 20s and are from Vinton, Canutillo and Westway.
