Ex-Employee Accused Of Burglarizing Business, Homes

A shoe print leads investigators to the arrest of an ex-employee responsible for burglarizing a business and several homes.

On April 1, 2008, sheriff 's deputies arrived at burglary was reported at SteelWay International located at 210 Los Mochis in Canutillo, Texas.

The business manager told deputies the company had been burglarized multiple times that same week . More than $3,000 worth of items had been taken from the company during these burglaries, according to officials.

Detectives said they discovered that the suspect responsible for these burglaries was an ex-employee of the company. Deputies had located shoe impressions at and leading away from the scene. Deputies said they had also found similar shoe impressions at other crime scenes in Canutillo, Texas.

Detectives said they discovered that Alfonso Hernandez, 38, was also burglarizing his neighbors' homes and other businesses and pawning the stolen items at the local pawn shops.

When he was charged with these crimes, Hernandez was already in custody at the El Paso County Detention Facility for other charges of drug possession and a parole violation.

Hernandez was wearing the same shoes that detectives said made the same impressions found at each burglarized site when he was arrested on drug charges.
