EL PASO, Texas -- El Paso City warns residents about false weed or trash violations being sent through the mail. The city is warning people of a scam involving correction notices for weeds and trash.Inspectors have learned that fake correction notices informing property owners about weed and trash violations were recently mailed out. The fake notices were sent in yellow envelopes containing actual postage stamps. The Code Compliance Division has reported the problem to the El Paso Police Department.Code compliance inspectors would like to remind the public that they do not use yellow envelopes or actual postage stamps when mailing information to residents about weed and trash violations. When an inspector mails a notice, the inspector sends it as a U.S. Postal Service certified letter that is addressed to the property owner. The envelope used contains the City’s seal and clearly identifying the sender as the City of El Paso.If you recently received a correction notice through the mail and you want to make sure it is a legitimate notice, please call 774-4500.
