EL PASO, Texas -- Socorro ISD Superintendent Dr. Sylvia Atkinson now finds herself in a tough position. Both Joe Sarabia and Tony Ayub -- two of her biggest critics and part of a KFOX investigation into the hiring practices of the Socorro District -- have been elected to the board."It's going to be a new change of the board, and she's going to have to work with two new individuals who aren't afraid to ask questions," Sarabia said. Both men now join Craig Patton and Karen Blaine -- who voted against extending Atkinson's contract -- forming a four-person majority that could ultimately lead to Atkinson's removal."We have a lot of supportive board members that would like to see the right thing done, and maybe a new direction. Part of the formula may be what's in the best interest of the district is to get a different superintendent," Ayub said.Atkinson said regardless of the past, she's not worried about her future and looks forward to working with both Sarabia and Ayub."I really do believe that there's still a lot of work that can be done here to help produce additional opportunities for success, and I think I'm still the right person to be doing that. In the event the board decides otherwise, then we'll take it up at that point," Atkinson said.
