Gas Prices Affecting Flower Shops On Mother's Day

Posted: 8:23 pm MDT May 10, 2008Updated: 10:13 pm MDT May 10, 2008

This Mother's Day, expect to get less bouquet for your buck, thanks largely to prices at the pump.

At Heaven's Sent Florist in West El Paso, the cost of flower deliveries jumped from $6 to $8 compared with last year.

"It's affecting our customers and everybody's unhappy about it, including us," Heaven's Sent employee Lee Morales said.

As a result, many flower shops are seeing more customers picking up their flowers instead of getting them delivered. Customers also said high gas prices are affecting the quality of the flowers they buy for mothers.

"Maybe two years ago I might have gone for a $100 arrangement; now I'm looking for about $45 to $50, so about half the price," West El Paso resident David Sidransky said.
