LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- A woman was airlifted to the hospital after her car rolled over several times in Las Cruces.

The crash happened around 12:30 p.m. Saturday on 1-25 near the University exit.

Police said the woman tried passing several cars when she somehow lost control, causing the car to roll.

The northbound lanes of I-25 were shut down for close to 20 minutes as the helicopter landed.

"We don't know at this point if she might have been on her cell phone or something. It's hard to say, all we can really say right now is that she was trying to pass some vehicles," said Officer Gonzalez of the New Mexico State Police.

Police told KFOX she suffered serious injuries and was being treated at Thomason hospital.
